Piston Liner Assembly

The cylinder is the enclosed space in which the mixture of air and fuel is burned and then heat energy transformed to mechanical energy. A cylinder may be constructed of a varying number of parts among which the essentials are the cylinder jacket, the cylinder liner, and the cylinder head. In most designs the space between the cylinder jacket and the liner is cored to carry circulating water for cooling purposes.

Types of Cylinder Liners/Sleeves

Dry type:

• Dry type, is a replaceable liner that fits into a water-cooled jacket without making direct contact with cooling water.

Wet type:

• In wet type of cylinder liners there are water-cooling facility around the cylinder liner. These kinds of engines are used in heavy weight-loading vehicles. So these kinds of liners needs special outer surface.
• The wet type is a replaceable liner that makes direct contact with the cooling water.
